Position Paper 4: Wild Card
Personal PR for Small Businesses
Oftentimes when thinking about public relations, my mind goes directly to a huge corporation with lots of franchisees and employees. In reality, any business despite its size can benefit from positive public relations. In this position paper, I wanted to explore tips and things to consider and keep in mind to help grow and elevate small businesses,
REACH OUT TO THE COMMUNITY
Add a small business owner being able to connect with the community that you sir is a great way to foster positive public relations. Whether it’s through volunteering at local soup kitchens or donating services or goods for individuals in need in your community all are great ways to connect with the community. Giveaways and raffles are another way to interact with the community, especially since they people the opportunity to support you who otherwise may not be able to do so. Holidays are always a good time for companies to donate to different charities. It could be sponsoring families through angel tree or donating services or goods to those in need or even donating your product to larger donation projects.
DIVERSITY
If you have a small business with employees that work under you having a diverse range of employees is always a good idea. It will allow your consumers democracy people that look like them are a part of the company. Having a diverse range of employees is also beneficial because it will give you a range of perspectives to consider and be mindful of how to help avoid a public relations crisis. The last of large companies who had set prices diversity is something that they always make an appointment to say that they will increase because having people on all levels of the manufacturing process of the product can help to eliminate some of those issues.
Hiring signs can be found in many places all over the county right now. For many people during the pandemic not being able to work they were forced to take out unemployment which came with additional benefits considering we're at the peak of a world pandemic. For many people, the unemployment benefits that they received were more than the paychecks that they were receiving from working so many people were not in a rush to return to work seeing if they were able to be home spend more time with their children and care for their homes while making more than they did while working and expending extra work mentally and physically. So currently people are not interested in going back to the same jobs that we’re not paying them adequately livable wages so companies who are willing to do so certainly stand out to people.
USE CUSTOMER REVIEWS SHOWCASE AWARDS
I would encourage all small business owners to urge their customers to leave reviews of the products or services that you provide. Potential customers use reviews as a way to assess the product and determine if they will support your business.
USE SOCIAL MEDIA TO YOUR BENEFIT
This might be one of the biggest points of them all using social media to your benefit. Social media does not require perfection, you just have to understand who your target market is and what they prefer to see. If a company is selling customizable walkers then TikTok may not be the appropriate platform based on the age range of individuals who use the app most. Facebook may be a better site to advertise for the company because the median age of users is a bit higher. Use your social media to persuade and educate individuals on your product and how it is different from others in your field.
BE CONSISTENT
And all that you do is be consistent that’s not to say that everything has to be perfect but be continuous so that you can track your growth. Whether that’s with SOCIAL MEDIA or developing your craft be consistent and videos and pictures to document the journey as well. As your business grows all the documentation will mean much more to you and you can also share it with your supporters and customers.
